School Closure – learning the class can complete

I appreciate it is hot and the children will be excited for the extra time off school. But here is some work for the day off that they can do when you want them to have some time to rest and be out of the sun.

Literacy

To keep cool whilst off school, can the children tell you about the story we have been reading recently, ‘Handa’s Surprise’.

To support your children’s learning, where possible, it would be great for the children to draw a picture about their favourite part of the story and then write a simple sentence.

Phonics details below:

I would love to see any pictures and sentences when we return back to school.

Science

With the temperatures being so hot, I imagine there will be a lot of water play. To make this fun as well as educational, I am asking for the children to gather different objects (e.g. water bottles, lego, boxes, etc) and play them in the water to see what can float and what sinks.

An added challenge would be to ask your children to make a boat that floats with any un-needed objects to see what they can create.

Maths

As the year is coming to an end, we are focusing on the children practicing and their addition skills. Reception as encouraged to use objects to her (fingers, toys, crayons, etc) to help make this learning more practical.

Please see the equations below and see if your children can answer these using different objects they have to find the total quantity.

Finally enjoy your day. I look forward to seeing you back in school when it is re-opened.
